Nova
Scotia - PNP
What is Nova Scotia Nominee Program (NSNP)?
The NSNP is an agreement between the Government of
Canada and the Government of Nova Scotia allowing the
Province to recruit immigrants who can help Nova Scotia
meet its industrial, economic, and labour-market needs.
How long does it take to process
an application?
Processing times will vary depending on applicants'
individual circumstances. However, processing times are
expected to be significantly shorter under the NSNP than
through other Canadian immigration programs.
What are the next steps after
an application is approved?
After an applicant is approved, the applicant will
receive notice that a nominee certificate has been
issued. The certificate itself is forwarded directly to
a Canadian Embassy, Consulate or High Commission. A
Nominee must submit his/her Citizenship and Immigration
application within 180 days of having received notice
that a nominee certificate has been issued.
What are the
Right of Landing Fees paid?
Once an applicant has been approved as a Nominee,
her/his application must be sent to a Canadian Visa
Office abroad for security and medical checks. The Right
of Landing and federal processing fees must be submitted
along with the application.
Is a Nominee
required to live in Nova Scotia for a minimum period of
time?
There is no minimum period of residency required.
However, acceptance will be based on a commitment to
become a permanent resident of
Nova Scotia.
Will a Nominee
have any obligations to the program after landing?
Nominees agree to participate in the evaluation of the
NSNP as part of the application process. This will
enable the province to evaluate the program's success.
Are there any
costs associated with making this application?
Yes. There will be a small, non-refundable provincial
government processing fee (CD$ 1700 at the time of
writing).
Must an applicant
make an exploratory visit before submitting an
application?
Each Nominee is required to make an exploratory visit to
Nova Scotia, lasting a minimum of five full business days. If the exploratory visit
were to be combined with the interview, the application
may be submitted beforehand and the interview scheduled
for the fourth or fifth business day of the visit.
Is there any return on the
investment?
The economic contribution is a one-time payment and
there will be nothing returned to applicants from this
amount.
How do applicants receive an
employment contract?
Upon visa issuance, nominees will be presented with a
list of approved businesses from which to select. This
list includes the name, location and type of business,
as well as the job description, and the nominee could
contact the company prior to making his/her selection.
The investment will be made in the applicant’s chosen
company, which will offer a six month employment
contract and enable him/her to earn employment income.
Are applicants required to accept the
employment under the Nova Scotia Nominee Program?
This employment contract will assist immigrants in
becoming established in Nova Scotia. They are not
required to accept this contract, and there will be no
payment or other benefit to nominees in lieu of this
contract.
